As it may be guessed, the village must have been named after the carpenters being in the king's service. It was populated as early as the Roman times. Also the conquerors of Hungary settled here soon. In the 18th century Mátyás Bél mentioned it as a "big and rich village".

Along the sandy riverside of the Danube - near the village - the gold-washing has a great tradition. Its historic monument the Baroqe presbyterian church was built on foundations from the 12-13th century. Its natural value is the Turkish hazel-nut alley, the tree-collection Concó-puszta.

The number of its inhabitants is a bit more than 7300.

Wie ist ahnen läßt, erhielt diese Ortschaft ihren Namen wahrscheinlich von den im Dienst des Königs stehenden Zimmerleuten (ács). Auch in der Zeit der Römer war dieser Ort bewohnt und auch bei der Landnahme siedelten sich schnell hier Leute an. Mátyás Bél erwähnt ihn im achzehnten Jahrhundert als "großer und reiches Dorf".

Der neben der Ortschaft befindliche sandige Donauabschnitt hat Tradition beim Goldwaschen. Historisches Denkmal ist die sich auf Fundamenten aus dem 12-13. Jahrhundert erhebende barocke reformatische Kirche. An Naturwerten sind die unter Schutz stehende Türkennußbäume und die Concó-Pusta-Baumsammlung zu nennen.

Die Zahl der Einwohner beträgt heute etwas mehr als 7300.

Ahogyan sejthetõ, nevét valószínűleg - királyi szolgálatban álló - ácsokról kapta. A római idõkben is lakott volt, a honfoglalók is hamar megtelepedtek itt: Bél Mátyás a tizennyolcadik században "nagy és gazdag faluként" említi.

A település melletti homokos Duna-szakaszon hagyománya van az aranymosásnak. Műemléke a 12-13. századi alapokra emelt barokk református templom valamint a Zichy-kastély. A községben nagy hagyományú cukorgyár működik. Természeti értéke a védett törökmogyoró-fasor, a Concó-pusztai fagyűjtemény.
