Its name of Hungarian origin - according to some explanations - hides in itself the name of a plant. It is first mentioned in a document from 1221. The village with a population hardly over 800 is famous mostly for its wine: as early as the second part of the 18th century there was a prospering viticulture on the Öreg-hill and on the Kis-Strázsa hill. The village belonged to Veszprém County till 1950. Its catholic church and its neo-classic parsonage house are historical monuments.

Der Name mit ungarischen Ursprung verbirgt in sich nach einigen Meinungen den Namen einer Pflanze. Im Jahr 1221 wird er erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Das Dorf mit heute etwas mehr als 800 Einwohnern ist am ehesten durch seinen Wein bekannt. Auf den Bergen Öreghegy und Kis-Strázsa wurden schon in der zweiten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts eine blühende Weinkultur und in deren Spuren die bis heute erhalten gebliebenen Traditionen der Berggemeinden gepflegt. Bis 1950 gehörte die Ortschaft zum Komitat Veszprém. Historische Gebäude sind die katholische Kirche und das im klassizistischen Stil erbaute Pfarrhaus.

Magyar eredetû neve egyesek szerint növény nevét rejti magában. 1221-ben említik elõször oklevélben. A ma 800 lakosnál valamivel több lakosú falucska leginkább boráról ismert: az Öreg-hegyen és a Kis-Strázsán már a 18. század második felében virágzó szõlõkultúrát és nyomokban máig fönnmaradt hegyközségi szokásokat ápoltak. 1950-ig Veszprém megyéhez tatozott. Katolikus temploma mûemlék, klasszicista plébániaháza mûemlék jellegû.
