It was inhabitated in the Bronze Age and also during the period of the Hungarian conquest. These facts are proved by the archaeological findings uncovered here. In the medieval documents it is mentioned as "Chep". Before the Turkish invasion it was recorded as a strong and rich village. Today hardly more than 400 people live here. Its historical building the country house of its son Kálmán Thaly - who was a literary-politician - was built in the early years of the 19th century in popular Baroque style. Its other famous daughter was Laura Csajághy - the wife and Muse of one of our greatest poets, Mihály Vörösmarty.

Diese Ortschaft war bereits in der Bronzezeit und in der Zeit der Landnahme bewohnt, worüber die Funde Zeugnis ablegen. In den Schriften des Mittelalters wird sie meistens als Chep erwähnt. Vor der Türkenzeit zählte sie als starkes und reiches Dorf. Heute wohnen kaum mehr als 400 Menschen hier. Ein historisches Gebäude ist das am Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts im volksbarocken Stil erbaute Herrenhaus des Literaturhistorikers und Politikers Kálmán Thaly, der hier geboren wurde. Ebenfalls hier geboren wurde Laura Csajághy, die Frau und Muse eines unserer größten Dichters, Mihály Vörösmarty.

Lakták a bronzkorban és a honfoglalás idején, amirõl leletek tanúskodnak, a középkori iratokban többnyire Chep-ként emlegetik. A török kor elõtt erõs, gazdag faluként tartották számon. Mai lélekszáma alig több 400-nál, mûemlék jellegû épülete szülöttének, az irodalmár-politikus Thaly Kálmánnak a 19. század elején épült kúriája. Másik ismert szülötte egyik legnagyobb költõnk Vörösmarty Mihály felesége-múzsája Csajághy Laura.
