It was a favourite dwelling place in the Roman times : this fact is proved by the uncovered ruins of former Roman villas. In the Middle Ages a monastery stood here. The village remained inhabited even after the Turkish invasion. It was famous for its wine. Its wine cellars remind us of this fact, thought the vineyards were replanted to new places after their perishing.

Its name is especially known regarding the history of industry: the first Portland-cement factory of Hungary was establisched here in 1869, based on the raw-material of the marl-pit of the Berzsek-hill. Its historic monument is the reconstructed poligonal presbyterian church from the 15th century. Today about 5700 inhabitants live here

Dieser Ort war in der Römerzeit ein beliebter Wohnort, was die Mauerüberreste der einstigen Villen beweisen. Im Mittelalter stand hier ein Kloster und das Dorf wurde auch in der Zeit der Einnahme durch die Türken nicht entvölkert. Berühmt war sein Weißwein. Die Kellereihe errinnert noch heute daran, obwohl der Wein nach seinem Aussterben an einem neuen Ort angepflanzt wurde.

Der Name der Ortschaft ist hinsichtlich seiner Industriegeschichte am bekanntesten. Hier wurde im Jahr 1869 auf das Grundmaterial des Mergelbergwerkes am Berzsek-Berg die erste Portlandzementfabrik Ungarns errichtet. Ein historisches Gebäude ist die umgebaute, vieleckige reformatische Kirche aus dem 15. Jahrhundert. Die Einwohnerzahl liegt um 5700.

A római korban kedvelt lakóhely: ezt egykori villák falmaradványai igazolják. A középkorban kolostor állott itt, a falu a török hódítások idején sem néptelenedett el. Ismert volt fehérbora, pincesora ma is erre emlékeztet, bár a szõlõket kipusztulásuk után új helyre telepítették

Neve ipartörténeti vonatkozásban a legismertebb: 1869-ben alapították itt Magyarország elsõ portlandcementgyárát a Bersek-hegyi márgabánya nyersanyagára építve. Mûködik itt ismert papírgyár és vasbetongyár is. Mûemlék jellegû épülete átépített, 15. századi eredetû sokszögû református temploma. Lakóinak száma 5.700 körülire tehetõ.
