The ancient village was built on the ruins of the Roman "Quadriburg": the archeologists have uncovered here the ruins and relics of villas and the bathing-culture. To this region - destroyed during the Turkish invasion - Slovakian settlers from Nyitra came to live.

Even today they form the majority of the population. Its catholic Baroque church from the 18th century with its rococo highaltar and baptismal-font is a historic building.

Auf die Überreste der römischen Siedlung Quadriburg wurde der Vorgänger des heutigen Dorfes gebaut. Die Archäologen fanden hier Ruinen von Villen. Gegenstände der römischen Badekultur usw. In der während der Türkeneinnahme entvölkerten Ortschaft siedelten sich aus Nyitra kommende Slowaken an, die auch heute noch den größte Teil der Bevölkerung ausmachen.

Die Einwohnerzahl liegt um 3500. Ein historisches Denkmal ist die aus dem 18. Jahrhundert stammende, barocke katholische Kirche, deren Kanzel und Taufbrunnen im Rokokostil.

Quadriburg római település maradványaira épült a mai falu elõdje: villák romjait, a római fürdõkultúra emlékeit stb. találtak itt a régészek. A török hódítás idején kipusztult településre Nyitra megyébõl jöttek szlovák telepesek, ma is õk alkotják a népesség jelentõs részét.

A lakosság lélekszáma 3.900 körül van. Katolikus barokk temploma a 18. századból való, mûemlék jellegû rokokó fõoltára és keresztelõkútja is.
