Tata

Information /  Informationen Információk

Its name was already mentioned in a document from 1093. The naming town of the Tata-basin preserves the marks of nearly all human cultures, probably due to its favourable location its geographical and natural resources and last but not least its waters.

The "birth" of the town rests upon a Benedictine monastery built here. Then in the 14th century its water-castle exerted an effect on its development.

Especially our kings liked this town: after Charles Robert and Sigmund, King Matthias was the regular resident of the castle. In the 18th century the castle was reconstructed according to the Baroque style, then later it was rebuilt conforming to the characteristics of the romantic style.

Today there is a museum with valuable relicts and collections furnished in it. Tata was famous for its thermal sprigs which on the one hand fed on ponds on the other hand contributed to develop a prosperous milling-industry.

The present look of the town was formed under the instructions of Jakab Fellner who was the court-architect of the Esterházy family. The numerous Baroque buildings of the town - in typical "Esterházy-yellow" - are all worth seeing, for examples: the castle, the churches and the "little"-castle of the amusement park. The well-known symbols of the town are the Miklós-mill or the Clock-tower covered with shingle - can often be seen on picture-postcards.

The Öreg-pond and the Cseke-pond also determine the unique geological demonstration area are well worth visiting. In the Agostyán Botanic-garden, situated in the Bocsájtó-valley a special collection of conifers can be seen.

A Tatai-medence névadó települése szinte minden elõzõ emberi kultúra nyomait õrzi, ami feltehetõen kedvezõ fekvésének, földrajzi-természeti adottságainak, nem utolsósorban vizeinek köszönhetõ.

Megtekintésre érdemes gyûjtemény a görög-római szobormásolatok múzeuma, a német nemzetiségi múzeum, a párját ritkító geológiai bemutatóterület. A városhoz tartozó Agostyán arborétumában tûlevelû fafajok különleges gyûjteménye látható a Bocsájtó-völgyben.
