In the Middle Ages it belonged to the fortress of Tata. During the Turkish invasion the village was destroyed. Later on the Esterházy family populated it with German settlers: today the majority of its population is of German nationality. The village has about 1300 inhabitants. In the years of 1750 its population lived on coal-mining.The sight of the village are: the catholic church (today a historic monument), and in its neighbourhood the Gothic fortress, the ruins of Vitány, hiding themselves in the middle of a 70 hectar-sized park-Wood.

In Mittelalter gehört der Ort zur tataer Burg, wurde während der Türkenzeit zerstört und später durch die Esterházys mit Deutschen besiedelt. Ein großer Teil der Einwohner ist noch heute deutscher Nationalität. Die Einwohnerzahl beträgt 1300. Seit 1750 beschäftigt sich die hiesige Bevölkerung mit dem Abbau von Braunsteinkohle.Sehenswürdigkeiten sind die katholische Kirche, beziehungsweise der sich in der Nähe erhebende wildromantische Ruinenkomplex der gothische Burg von Vitány, die sich in einem Waldpark von 70 Hektar Größe verbirgt.

A középkorban a tatai várhoz tartozott, a törökdúlás idején elpusztult, késõbb az Esterházyak németekkel telepítették be: lakosságának nagy része ma is németajkú. Lélekszáma 1.300 körül van, lakossága barnakõszén fejtésével foglalkozott az 1750-es évektõl.Látványossága barokk stílusú katolikus mûemléktemploma, a község középpontjában álló klasszicista kápolna illetve a közelben emelkedõ gótikus vár, Vitány vadregényes romegyüttese, amely mintegy 70 hektáros parkerdõ közepén bújik meg.
